Abstract: Nature-based solutions are essential in addressing sustainability challenges. This is particularly evident in urban areas, where NbS promote social inclusion and environmental justice. NbS provide an innovative approach to urban resilience by integrating socio-ecological systems with traditional infrastructure, transforming cities into greener, more liveable spaces. The success of NbS in sustainable development depends on its ability to address complex societal needs while preserving biodiversity and ecosystem services, as well as energy performance. The talk will introduce and discuss the review of studies on the thermal performance of buildings to assess the energy efficiency with nature-based solutions, in particular green roofs and green walls. The main research question of the study is: How to reduce energy poverty by improving buildings thermal performance using green roofs and green walls? The study is expected to explore the potential of nature-based solutions to alleviate energy poverty by contributing to sustainable socio-ecological systems and improving the energy efficiency of buildings.
